Does a Vitamin Deficiency Cause Weight Gain

Studies have shown that people who eat properly three times a day also have some vitamin deficiency in their body. Our body requires the right amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutrition to perform various functions. Some vitamins and minerals do not get produced in our body, and thus we need to provide that vitamin from an outside source.

Fruits and vegetables are high sources of vitamins and minerals. An individual must consume all foods in a balanced diet so that his body gets all the required vitamins and nutrients. Due to lack of consumption of certain food which is rich in a particular vitamin, many people can face vitamin deficiencies. Vitamin deficiencies can affect your body in various ways. Deficiency of vitamin A can affect our eyes, Lack of iodine can cause goiter, lack of vitamin B3 causes pellagra, deficiency of vitamin E causes nerve problems, etc.

If you were planning to lose weight and you started out to exercise but still feel that you are not losing any weight. You might have to check if you have any vitamin deficiencies. Lack of certain vitamins in your body can make you gain weight no matter how hard you try to lose it.

The following are some of the vitamins if found deficient in your body can cause weight gain:

  • Vitamin D.
  • Vitamin B12.
  • Vitamin C.

Vitamin D:

A recent study shows that women who took supplements during their workouts which provided their body with vitamin D happen to lose more weight and stayed fit whereas the ones who did not take the Vitamin D supplements did not lose much weight as compared to the ones who took the supplements. Though we know that Vitamin D deficiency causes weight gain, there are no clear proof or study on how the Vitamin D is related to weight gain.

Regardless of the increase in weight, Lack of vitamin D can cause tiredness, fatigue, body pain and aches. Some of the sources of Vitamin D are exposure of your skin to sunlight. Dietary sources include milk, egg, yogurt, orange juice, salmon, etc.

 Vitamin B12:

If you happen to be a vegan or a vegetarian, then you might have a deficiency in Vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is mostly found in meat such as beef, chicken, dairy products and eggs. The deficiency in Vitamin B12 can also cause depression, fatigue, and weight gain. Again no studies have shown how the deficiency of Vitamin B12 can cause weight gain in your body.

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C is another vitamin if consumed in lesser amount can make you gain weight. Deficiency of Vitamin causes scurvy. Scurvy is a condition where your body becomes weak, and your gums start to bleed.  You become fatigued and also get skin rashes. The dietary source of vitamin C is citrus fruits like lemon, orange, etc., potatoes, broccoli, and strawberries.

So if you are feeling fatigued or tired all the time, you might check if your body is getting all the needed nutrients and vitamins in the right amount.

Precaution for Dengue Disease

The dengue fever is one of the deadliest diseases that can affect your life. The dengue virus causes it, and this virus gets carried by the female Aedes aegypti mosquito. The dengue virus is spread only by the female mosquitoes. This female mosquito bite during the daytime and are very active just after sunrise and right before sunset. There are many people these days who are affected with dengue. One of the main reason why dengue spreads is that there is stagnant water left unheeded for days inside and outside the house.

These days with the rise in global warming all the ice caps have started to melt down causing the water bodies to increase in size and water gets accumulated on land. This stagnation of water on land can cause the breeding of mosquitoes.  It is straightforward for the mosquitoes to breed in stagnant water and if you happen to live near such puddles, then there are high chances you might get bit by a mosquito which carries the dengue virus in it.

Signs and Symptoms:

If you are bitten by a mosquito which has the dengue virus the symptoms at the beginning is that you will have a fever for around 3 to 8 days. The fever is accompanied by severing headache and pain at the back of your eye. Slowly you start to develop muscle, and joint pain and your appetite get lost. In the later stages, you might have vomiting and diarrhea. Rashes on the skin might appear, and there could be bleeding from the gums and nose.

Diagnosis and treatment:

Dengue is diagnosed by clinical representation and by testing the blood of the infected person. Though dengue affects many people, unfortunately, there is no specific treatment available to treat dengue. Thus one needs to be extremely careful to protect themselves from being affected. Dengue is a very deadly disease and can even cause death. Paracetamol is given to patients to reduce the fever.

Since no proper cure is available for dengue, you must take care of your surroundings and keep yourself protected from the mosquitoes.

If there is stagnant water near your locality, then make sure that gets covered with something. Do not let stagnant water to stand near you and give a chance for the mosquitoes to breed in the water. Get mosquito repellents if you happen to live in an area where there are lots of mosquitoes.

The local municipal can take charge to disinfect and spray mosquito poison over public places where mosquitoes can possible have a chance to breed. Mosquito nets and meshes can be fixed in windows so that mosquitoes do not enter your home.

If you happen to have a garden at home, then make sure that there is no stagnation of water in the backyard. Do not keep barrels or open containers outside your home as it is ideal for mosquitoes to breed. Some of the other things to be checked are garden fountains, rubber tires filled with rainwater, coconut shells, plastic bottles, etc.
