Volunteer Services

South Coast Medical Center's Auxiliary is an active group of volunteers providing services for the hospital and its patients. Volunteers focus on providing the best possible experience for patients and families.

Organized in 1956, the Auxiliary played a significant role in fundraising and opening of the hospital in 1959. Even today, the Auxiliary continues to contribute to the growth and success of its not-for-profit community hospital. Volunteers contribute thousands of hours each month to provide vital hospital services, community outreach and fundraising effort.

Volunteer Services

Auxiliary volunteers provide needed services throughout the hospital. They manage and assist sales in the Gift Shop, greet and direct visitors, assist on the nursing floors and serve as emergency room and recovery room aides. Volunteers act as surgical liaisons and help in radiology, the birthing center, central services and the pharmacy. Volunteers also provide clerical assistance in various administrative offices.

Fundraising Efforts

The Auxiliary serves as one of South Coast Medical Center's major support groups, helping the hospital provide the finest and most personalized healthcare in the area.

The Holiday Faire, Night at the Pageant of the Masters, a Holiday Fashion Show and Gift Shop sales are all fundraising efforts organized and implemented by Auxiliary members.

The Auxiliary also participates in the hospital's community outreach programs, which include the Annual Flu Shot Clinic and Community Expos.

Student Volunteers

The Auxiliary is proud to welcome students, 14 years of age and over, who volunteer their services to South Coast Medical Center.

High school, college and post-graduate students dedicate hundreds of hours outside their school schedules to the hospital. In return, student volunteers receive such benefits as educational experience in a medical environment, fulfillment of community service hours, scholarship opportunities, college recommendations and job referrals.
