Take a Swing at Cancer: SCMC's 2008 Golf Tournament It's time to sign up for this important fundraiser! This summer, South Coast Medical Center will host the 2008 golf tournament in support of the fight against cancer. During this day of spirited golf competition, participants will enjoy a barbecue lunch, silent auction and a Mexican buffet reception. In addition, there will be an impressive silent auction on hand that will include a week-long trip to Cabo San Lucas, a set of golf clubs and two tickets to the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. Non-golfers may attend the Mexican Buffet Reception and Silent Auction at a cost of $50 per person. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for the purchase of a brand new radiation “zapper”(linear accelerator) to use for cancer treatment. The price tag for the linear accelerator is $3 million. The hospital has $1.1million reserved in its Cancer Center fund that can be applied to this state-of-the-art piece of equipment. The golf tournament is the first big fundraising effort to raise the additional $1.9 million that is needed for this critical item.
