Dana Point Councilman, Joel Bishop, Elected to Hospital Board
of Directors
Joel
Bishop, a Dana Point City Councilman, has been elected to the South
Coast Medical Center Foundation’s Board of Directors.
Mr. Bishop brings a strong civic and business background to the
Board. As a co-owner of a software and services company established
in 2000, Mr. Bishop’s company has grown from 23 employees
in Orange County to over 150 across the country.
Prior to serving on the City Council, in 1996, Mr. Bishop joined
the South Coast Water District (SCWD), an organization that provides
water and sewer services to most of Dana Point, as well as South
Laguna Beach and parts of San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente
as a Board Director. Over the course of the next ten years, Mr.
Bishop also served as three-time president of the SCWD Board. During
his tenure at SCWD, he worked tirelessly to keep rates as low as
possible. In addition to keeping the rates low, he also ensured
that the aging infrastructure had been repaired and/or replaced.
“We are pleased to have a representative from Dana Point
of Joel’s caliber,” said Elizabeth Pearson Schneider,
Executive Director of the SCMC Foundation. “He will
help the hospital re-connect with the Dana Point community and
aid us in establishing relationships that will help the hospital
grow into the future.”
Mr. Bishop lives in Dana Point and is a father of two -- Melanie,
19, and Dylan, 16.
South Coast Medical Center recently announced its intention to
remain in Laguna Beach and to address its State-mandated earthquake-retrofit
issue by building a new patient care building, to be paid for – in
large part – with senior housing on land it owns behind the
hospital. South Coast Medical Center serves South County,
including the communities of Laguna Beach, Dana Point, San Juan
Capistrano, San Clemente, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo.
