The Women’s Advisory Council, in conjunction with the SCMC Auxiliary, pulled out all the stops with their September 21st “Fall Into the Holidays” fashion show and luncheon, making it the most successful one to date. In its 12th year, this much-anticipated event delivered -- with entertainment, auctions, cuisine and, of course, the fashions. The proceeds from the event, co-chaired by Kate Mullins, Assistant Executive Director, Foundation and Julie Christian, Chairperson, Women’s Advisory Council and wife of SCMC’s President & CEO, Bruce Christian, benefit the SCMC Foundation, in support of its focus to raise money for new equipment and renovations of the hospital.

“Not only does the Fashion Show raise money to buy much-needed equipment for South Coast Medical Center, but it also gives the hospital the opportunity to connect with its patients and supporters outside of the hospital environment,” said Julie Christian.

Over 300 guests, including such notables as CA Assemblyman Chuck Devore, 5th District OC Supervisor and Foundation Board member – Pat Bates, Laguna Beach City Mayor Toni Iseman, Laguna Beach City Councilwoman Cheryl Kinsman, Laguna Beach City Clerk Martha Anderson, Aliso Viejo City Councilwoman Carmen Cave, Dana Point Mayor Diane Harkey, Dana Point City Councilman and Foundation Board member – Joel Bishop, and Laguna Beach Planning Commissioner Anne Johnson, attended the event. Guests dined on a delicious meal of forest mushroom ravioli with grilled herb crusted chicken breast, vine-ripened heirloom tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella, and a trio of chocolate mousse.

The afternoon flowed brilliantly, beginning with the engaging opening remarks of Elizabeth Schneider, Executive Director, SCMC Foundation. Following Ms. Schneider Ms. Christian welcomed all to the event, thanked the committee members, Auxiliary volunteers and models; and introduced the guest speaker, Constance Evans. Ms. Evans, an independent consultant for Color Me Beautiful, engrossed the guests with her demonstration of cosmetology color and design for each skin type. Stefani Villela, who beautifully played the piano during the reception, provided additional entertainment.

"Events like these are very important for South Coast Medical Center," said Laguna Beach City Councilwoman Cheryl Kinsman. "They let people know that the hospital intends on remaining in Laguna Beach and gives those who want to help an opportunity to join support groups and donate."

There was a lot of excitement in the air with the auctions. Courtesy of several generous donors, guests walked away with prizes ranging from jewelry to artwork – to a vintage fur coat. But the opportunity drawings created the biggest splash when two lucky winners walked away with a weeklong vacation in Cabo San Lucas, courtesy of Carole Bowman of American Securities Bank, as well as a week-long stay at an exclusive Oceanside retreat, courtesy of Gary Capata, Mayor of Laguna Niguel – and Foundation board member.

Clearly, the main attraction was the fashion show, which was emceed by Michelle Clark, a long-time Laguna Beach resident and Waste Management representative known for her quick wit and charm – and Inas Azzam, owner of Satisfy My Soul, one of the boutiques featured in the show. Tyler Murray Entertainment provided the mood and pace for the fashion show by providing a wide array of music. The exquisite fashions were presented by some of South Orange County’s premier boutiques: Bliss, Duet, Havoc, Monarch Silks, On Board, Satisfy My Soul, Something Moore, and Tight Assets. Modeling these fashions were some of South Orange County’s finest: Dr. Red Alinsod, Roy Allen, Wendy Allen, Joel Bishop; Gracie Boyd, wife of the late Hopalong Cassidy; Michelle Falkowski, Jean Fleisher, Diane Harkey, Toni Iseman, Dr. Kenneth James, Esther Kitchen, Dr. Arian Mowlavi, Janice Murdock, Elizabeth Novick, Dr. Brian Quebbemann, Susan Ritschel, former mayor of San Clemente, Arnetta Robinson, Ernie Schneider, Haven Schneider, Marcelita Vaughn, Bonnie Wheeler, and Chelsea Ziemann. The room was buzzing as the guests watched the models strut down the runway in clothes ranging from casual to formal.

The event would not have been possible without the leadership and participation of the 2007 Fall Into the Holidays committee:
