Judge John Adams Elected to SCMC Foundation Board of Directors

John AdamsJudge John Adams, Superior Court justice in Santa Ana, has been elected to the non-profit South Coast Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors.

Hailing from South County, Judge Adams was elected to the bench in 2002 where he handles civil and criminal trials, preliminary hearings and arraignments. In addition, he serves the Superior Court as a member of its oversight committee and as a legislative liaison for the California Judges Association.

“I can’t think of a better fit than John Adams for our Foundation board,” said Elizabeth Pearson Schneider – Executive Director of the SCMC Foundation Board of Directors.  “He will be terrific in helping us to spread the positive news about the hospital.  Both he and his Mom, Marge, have long been supporters of South Coast Medical Center and are two of the best ambassadors we have.”

Prior to his tenure as a justice, Judge Adams held an impressive career in national environmental law. During this time, he engaged in developing legislative initiatives in air quality management in California, Arizona, Missouri and Texas.  He oversaw development of the “Clean Screen”program model for vehicle emissions, securing approval from the EPA for nationwide implementation.

Judge Adams graduated with distinction from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Elected to Phi Beta Kappa during his undergraduate studies, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1974.  He then received his Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School in 1977 and was admitted to the California Bar.

John and his wife, Susan, reside in Dana Point.

South Coast Medical Center recently announced its intention to remain in Laguna Beach and to address its State-mandated earthquake-retrofit issue by building a new patient care building, to be paid for – in large part – with senior housing on land it owns behind the hospital.  South Coast Medical Center serves South County, including the communities of Laguna Beach, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo.
