PIMCO Foundation Grant Awarded to SCMC

PIMCO Grant

The PIMCO Foundation awarded one of its largest grants this year to South Coast Medical Center. The $50,000 grant was presented on behalf of Mark Porterfield, Executive Director of The PIMCO Foundation, to Elizabeth Schneider, Executive Director of the SCMC Foundation.

This grant will benefit the hospital’s transportation service, allowing for the purchase of two brand new vans to replace vehicles with hundreds of thousands of miles on them.
The transportation service at South Coast Medical Center is a vital part of the hospital’s community outreach. Free transportation for non-emergency patients is provided Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM for individuals using South Coast Medical Center or the physician offices located on or near the hospital campus. A wheelchair-accessible van is also available.

“One of the critical factors for this grant award was the fact that South Coast Medical Center serves a number of cities in Orange County,” said Mr. Porterfield. “The fact that, in addition to Laguna Beach, the van will be picking up residents from Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, San Clemente and Aliso Viejo was very important to our employee grant-selection committee.”

The PIMCO Foundation, a unit of Newport Beach-based PIMCO – the world’s largest bond manager, seeks to improve the quality of life in the community by supporting organizations thathelp people in need. Each year The PIMCO Foundation directs a considerable portion of its charitable budget toward grants to organizations including non-profit agencies.

Founded in 1959, South Coast Medical Center is a 208-bed facility located in Laguna Beach.
