Jens von Gierke Joins Hospital Board

Jens von GierkeJens von Gierke, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at Makar Properties, LLC, has joined the South Coast Medical Center Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Makar is the owner and developer of the St. Regis Resort, Monarch Beach. In his current capacity, Mr. von Gierke oversees the asset management of Makar’s hospitality portfolio which includes properties such as the Monarch Beach Golf Links, the Monarch Bay Club, the Hilton Anaheim, the Wyndham Orange County and the Korakia in Palm Springs. His other responsibilities include assisting the acquisition team with new assets and integrating them into Makar’s portfolio as well as all hospitality aspects in the development of new master plans and hotels.

A 20-year veteran of the hospitality industry, Mr. von Gierke joined Makar Properties in 1999. He was hired to assist in the planning and construction of the St. Regis. Since the opening in 2001, Mr. von Gierke has remained with Makar and continues to make strides with the properties he manages.

Previously, Mr. von Gierke served a two-year post as the Resident Manager of the 216-room Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong, China. During this time, he oversaw 250 employees and all aspects of the hotel’s daily operations. Prior to that, Mr. von Gierke was the Executive Assistant Manager of the Food and Beverage division for the 392-room Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel, where he managed an annual budget of $27 million, as well as a staff of 350 employees and 21 managers. Mr. von Gierke’s leadership in the hotel industry spans more than a decade and has taken him to hotels all over world, including Japan and Germany.
